I'd like to know where you found anything about OS X drivers (for the 3400) at the UMAX support site (I use the word support very loosely here) Download VueScan (from Hamrick Software, or through versiontracker) this supports a variety of 'older' scanners and works fine with my 3400 (though I rarely use it) I think you can use it free for a short while, but it won't give you high res scans until you pay for it ($60) If UMAX has a CD for the 3400, it's not that much either. You can get a brand new scanner for barely more than that. The Epsons, I think, are the only ones with internal support through OSX, but that's probably as minimal as you saw through the internal WinXP drivers (I've used this on WinXP ).
